A few weeks ago I spent AN HOUR OF MY LIFE tuned into a “marketing strategy” WEBINAR 🤔
Even though marketing strategy is what I do for lots of businesses, AND I TEACH IT TOO, I thought you never know, I might learn something 🤞
AND I DID.
I learned that some marketing people don’t know the difference between marketing “STRATEGY” and marketing “EXECUTION”. 😡
It was worrying and embarrassing too (I mean, OMG and WTF), seeing these “marketing people” sharing what was simply ‘comms planning and implementation’ to an audience of younger marketing and non-marketing people, and using the word “strategy” in almost every slide they presented 🙁
Nowhere did they discuss customer insights, whole of market segmentation, target audience choices or positioning a product or service to appeal to a chosen target market.
They did mention objectives, but this in relation to social media posts, not in relation to delivery of a full and thorough “marketing strategy”
SO I DID LEARN SOMETHING….
I learned how good I am at MARKETING STRATEGY 😁
No arrogance or aloofness (honest).
There are a lot of things I know nothing about. Some things actually I am really bad at too. But marketing strategy – that is a core skill (you will be pleased to know!)
SME’s (in particular) wanting to improve their understanding of marketing strategy, and be able to implement it in your business, and then (and only then) execute it as a marketing plan, get in touch.
